Care / Questions for a visit

# Make the answers concrete.

## Where can I talk this through?

Talk to a clinician, a health professional who can assess your concern. That visit can be in person or through telehealth, which means video, phone, or an online exchange.

Ask about other options as well as MOTS-c.

Bring a concern to assess. Leave with answers about the options and follow-up.

## Does online care count?

Each state has its own rules for prescriptions after online visits, as of September 26, 2026.

State medical boards are the public bodies that license doctors.

The national group of state medical boards calls for the same care standard online as in person.

That group gives guidance; each state sets its own rules.

For a phone or video visit, start with the rules of the state where you are sitting.

Look up the doctor and pharmacy

## Can I check the people and the product?

A licence is one check. The evidence for the treatment is another.

### Who is assessing me?

As of September 26, 2026, a doctor must have a licence or other permission to practise in the state where you are located during the visit.

Find your state’s medical board, the body that licenses doctors, then use its own search for the doctor’s name.

Check whether the licence is current. Look for public records that the board has punished the doctor or formally accused the doctor of breaking its rules.

Finding no record of punishment gives no answer about how good the care is.

I have the doctor’s full name.

I checked the doctor’s record on the board’s site.

What I found, and what is still unclear

### Who makes the product?

With compounding, a pharmacy or doctor makes a medicine for a particular patient.

The FDA, the US Food and Drug Administration, reviews medicine products.

As of September 26, 2026, medicine made by compounding has no FDA approval. That remains true if the pharmacy making it holds a licence.

US rules also restrict the raw ingredients that pharmacies can put into medicine made for a patient.

Under the rules and records checked September 26, 2026, an ordinary pharmacy cannot legally make MOTS-c from its raw ingredient.

[Read why the ingredient rules do not allow MOTS-c](/notes-and-sources/#pharmacy-rules)

Ask for the pharmacy’s name before making any payment. Check that name in the state’s pharmacy records.

If someone says the rules have changed, ask for the current official rule and a written explanation.

I have the pharmacy’s name.

I found its record in the state search.

I asked for the official rule behind any claim that the pharmacy may make MOTS-c.

## What belongs in the conversation?

Questions and replies

- Which human study supports this for my concern?

- What options have stronger evidence?

- Would a test or an in-person exam change the plan?

- Who answers if I have a problem later?

- What happens if no treatment is right for me?

The agreed next step, and who follows up

### What if a form is the whole visit?

Under medical-board guidance checked on September 26, 2026, treatment cannot rely only on an online form with fixed questions.

An online form can be part of an assessment if the clinician can ask more questions and gather the information needed.

That guidance also says people must be able to ask the clinician follow-up questions.
